Practising what they preach? Development NGOs and the EU’s Emergency Trust Fund for Africa

This article examines how non-governmental development organisations (NGDOs) balance their moral and organisational/financial incentives in the case of European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF). The EUTF was created 2015 to support Union’s (EU’s) migration policy by addressing ‘root causes’ Africa. analyses NGDOs have reacted using qualitative textual analysis publications press releases, finds that been highly critical EUTF’s underlying narrative, goals implementation. Their positions align closely with stated vision supporting empowering global poor. Despite this position, many benefitted financially from as project implementers. Regression on determinants NGDO participation projects reveals largely avoided more controversial management EUTF, focused mostly build resilience local communities improving lives rights poor shows practise what they preach, while did not abstain allow financial fully dictate actions either.
